Now that the kids are back to school and crisp fall air returns, it’s hard to remember just how bad the air felt this August. In fact, it has been well over a decade since the East Coast suffered the kind of sustained, unhealthy air we had last month.

TACOMA – Gay and lesbian citizens here obtained some basic human rights when the city adopted an anti-discrimination ordinance, April 23. The ordinance made it illegal to fire somebody just because they’re thought to be gay, deny service in a restaurant to gay, lesbian or transgender people, or deny housing or evict somebody based on their gender identity or sexual orientation.

BALTIMORE – In a case study of John Ashcroft’s “TIPS” program gone berserk, a neighborhood here was evacuated the night of Sept. 12 while the FBI grilled an innocent Arab-American man based on a false tip-off that he was building a bomb in his garage.
