El 10 de julio, el juicio del revolucionario colombiano Ricardo Palmera, también conocido como Simón Trinidad, llegó a su fin en Washington. Palmera fue declarado culpable de la acusación de haber tomado rehenes, pero el jurado no pudo decidir sobre las cuatro otra acusaciones. En noviembre de 2006, el primer juicio de Palmera fue declarado nulo cuando el jurado no pudo estar de acuerdo sobre el veredicto.
