This is a slightly edited version of a March 22 statement.


With the launching of rocket attacks by U.S. military forces in the early morning of March 20, the war against Iraq aimed at a “regime change” entered its final stage.

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas House of Representatives on April 2 passed a resolution supporting the war in Iraq, but not before some spirited debate and a demonstration in the House gallery against the war.

A word of advice to future Oscar winners: Don’t begin Oscar day by going to church.

That is where I found myself this past Sunday morning, at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Santa Monica Boulevard, at Mass with my sister and my dad.

OAKLAND, Calif. – In the largest protest in East Bay memory, nearly 20,000 demonstrators thronged Telegraph Ave., April 5, as dignitaries and youth led the march from north Oakland’s Mosswood Park to a downtown rally at City Hall.

OAKLAND, Calif. – Outraged witnesses and community leaders used words like “preemptive,” “premeditated,” and “brutal” during an emotionally charged meeting of the Oakland City Council to describe the Oakland Police Department’s attack on anti-war demonstrators and longshore workers near the gate of the Stevedoring Services of America dock on Monday, April 7.
