According to Senator John Warner (R-Va.), the new Pentagon “terrorism futures market” will be “immediately disestablished.” This is a reassuring thought, given the idiocy and ridiculousness of the idea in the first place.

Royals jack up the Sox, 13-9

At the All-Star Break in mid-July, the Kansas City Royals were seven games ahead of the Chicago White Sox in the race for first place of the American League Central Division. But over a series at the end of the month, the Royals extended a special hospitality to the visiting White Sox, allowing them over 30 total runs in three games and to sweep the series.

Music Review

I had always loved the bluegrass/roots based music of the Dixie Chicks, but after the recent corporate-organized attempt to boycott them, I felt it was almost a duty to get tickets and see their show. They are now on a national tour, dubbed the Top of the World Tour, hitting 12 cities this summer.

Lou Diskin, Communist and long-time working class activist, died July 28 at the age of 84. Lou was a carpenter, book publisher and seller, educator, and political leader. He was admired for his wisdom, modest character, deep concern for the well-being of all around him, and his daily humorous story. He was well-read in literature as well as politics.

Los republicanos fallaron en su intento de poner fin al debate y votar favorablemente sobre la nominación del procurador general de Alabama William Pryor para juez federal el 31 de julio. Solo dos demócratas votaron con los republicanos para terminar con el debate. De los 60 votos necesarios consiguieron solo 53 mientras 44 votaron contra el cierre.
