UNITED NATIONS, Mar 11 (IPS) - The United States government is drawing fire from international legal experts for its treatment of American Indians, Blacks, Latinos and other racial minorities.

The American Psychological Association’s Council of Representatives has introduced new wording in a resolution to clarify the ethical responsibilities of psychologists in harsh interrogation techniques.

HOUSTON – The beauty and genius of Black artists was readily apparent in a new exhibit at the University Museum at Texas Southern University (through March 22) titled “Art Official Intelligence.” Texas Southern University is the second largest Historically Black University in the United States and has recently been under attack by right-wing Bush cronies. Nevertheless, the university continues to maintain its dignity and commands respect for the outstanding contributions it continues to make to the Houston community. The university serves as the intellectual anchor of the African American community here. It continues to further the civil rights struggle as well.

The resignation by Governor Eliot Spitzer this week in the face of scandal has caused much confusion and concern. Spitzer’s time in office was mixed, but his election represented the hopes of New Yorkers to put decades of Republican rule in Albany behind them. He implemented some important progressive initiatives (like closing the loophole that threatened affordable housing in the State) and made some tragic concessions (big cuts to public hospitals).

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) today condemned the killing of Iraqi media executive, Qassem Abdul Hussein al-Eqabi, who was shot in Baghdad earlier today, and called on the government to improve the safety of media workers in Iraq.
