Mr. President, you say the State of the Union is strong. After seven years of your regime, working people know otherwise. We’re still in an ill-gotten war that is bankrupting the country. We’re working harder for less, struggling to keep our homes and get health care. Our civil liberties are eroded. Our planet is at risk.

The blockaded and barricaded residents of Gaza performed a dramatic mass act of peaceful civil disobedience last week.

New Jersey recently became the first Northern state to issue an apology for slavery, which claimed the lives of millions of African people “imported” to North America since the 17th century. In 1865, when slavery was abolished with the victory of the United States of America over the slaveholder-controlled Confederate States of America in the Civil War, there were nearly 4 million people in bondage.

African Americans and Mexican Americans — and really all Latinos — have much to gain in the 2008 elections. There are opportunities for both communities to work together and lead the growing movement for political change in Washington.

The Supreme Court will soon rule on an Indiana law requiring citizens to present a government-issued photo ID every time they vote. The case is Crawford v. Marion County Election Board.

En su reunión de invierno, la semana pasada, la Conferencia Estadounidense de Alcaldes hizo un llamado al Congreso a que reforme la Administración Federal de Viviendas para que este organismo pueda ayudar a los dueños de casas que tienen problemas con sus hipotecas, ayudar a los vecindarios donde hay muchas ejecuciones hipotecarias.

Esta pregunta aparentemente fácil de responder, no lo es. Las personas que prefieren no discutir política porque creen que es un asunto muy sucio, están considerando, no la materia en si misma sino los representantes de la política establecida, o los candidatos a presidentes, senadores, diputados o alcaldes quienes usan la mentira como medio de persuasión para conquistar los votos del pueblo. Esto hace sucia la política. Está claro que se consideramos los políticos que conocemos no podemos responder a esta pregunta seriamente.

Los profesores en el sistema nacional de instrucción publica en Puerto Rico tiene una lucha en contra del gobierno colonial que ha descertificado, por medio de la Comisión de Relaciones del Trabajo del Sector Público, este mes a su sindicato la Federación de Maestros de Puerto Rico (FMPR) después de que este organismo laboral tomó un voto en favor de irse a la huelga si el gobierno no entra en negociaciones de buena fe sobre las reclamaciones del magisterio.

Mientras caen las acciones en las diferentes bolsas de valores y domina el pánico entre los círculos financieros, ¿qué pasa cuando la economía sufre una recesión?
