En California el gobierno estatal cerrará el 1 de abril en tributo a César E. Chávez, el fallecido fundador y presidente del Sindicato de Trabajadores Agrícola (UFW por sus siglas en inglés), AFL-CIO. Esta será la segunda celebración del día feriado oficial que fue hecho ley por la firma del gobernador Gray Davis el 18 de agosto del 2000. Más de 100.000 empleados estatales recibirán un día libre pagado y los nińos en las escuelas públicas participarán en un día de servicio a la comunidad y educación en honor a Chávez.

In California, the state government will shut down April 1 in tribute to César E. Chávez, the late founder and president of the United Farm Workers (UFW), AFL-CIO. This will mark the second celebration of the official paid state holiday signed into law by Gov. Gray Davis on Aug. 18, 2000. Over 100,000 state workers will receive a paid holiday and children in public schools will participate in a day of service and learning in Chávez’s honor.
