On Saturday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m., the New Haven County Branch of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and the New Haven People’s Center will co-host a celebration of the life of Alice W. Goldberg at 37 Howe Street, New Haven, Conn.

Goldberg, a lifelong activist for peace and justice, died in August 2004 at the age of 102. Through seven decades, Alice and her husband David remained stalwart participants in efforts for a better world, including support for the Abraham Lincoln Brigade and the Henry Wallace presidential campaign on the Progressive Party ticket in 1948.

Goldberg served as treasurer of the American Committee for the Protection of the Foreign Born in the 1950s as part of the fight against McCarthyism. She was an active participant in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, and was a leader in WILPF until her death.
