St. Patrick’s concert for Sept. 11 victims

NEW YORK – Stephen Tharp, associate organist at St. Bartholomew’s Church, will perform a “September 11th Commemoration Concert” at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on the six-month anniversary of the attacks, Monday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m.

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is located at 50th Street and Fifth Avenue. Admission to the concert is free.

The solo organ concert is presented in memory of and in homage to the victims of Sept. 11. Selections will include Dudley Buck’s patriotic variations on “The Star Spangled Banner,” Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” (in an organ transcription by William Strickland), Felix Mendelssohn’s Organ Sonata No. 6, Leo Sowerby’s “Requiescat in Pace,” and Cesar Franck’s Choral No. 3 in A Minor.

Tharp has held concerts in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. He performs more than 50 concerts per season worldwide. His playing has been broadcast on both English and Irish national television, on Radio Prague, and nationally throughout the U.S. on Minnesota Public Radio’s “Pipedreams.” He is also an active New York area chamber musician, having performed with Jessye Norman, The American Boychoir; The Orchestra of St. Luke’s, and at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
